George Armstrong Custer; b. Dec. 5, 1839 in New Rumley, Ohio; d. June 25, 1876 at Little Bighorn River, Montana Territory; U.S. cavalry officer; graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., 1861; served in the Civil War, became brigadier general; killed at Battle of Little Bighorn.

The item is about the battle between the Confederate cavalry under Jeb Stuart and the Union forces under George Armstrong Custer and David McMurtrie Gregg on 3 July 1863 approximately three miles east of where "Picket's Charge" was engaging the federals. The manuscript was submitted to the Old Army Press for publication.
