Biographical History
Stanley A. Peterson (born 1938) was an educational administrator in Utah.
Stanley Arthur Peterson was born on April 20, 1938 in Sacramento, California to Oscar Henry Peterson and Bessie Viola Steinagel. He earned his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1960, and then returned to California to earn a master's degree at California State University, Los Angeles in 1964. After graduation he worked for the Church Educational System at the University of Southern California before being recruited by Ernest L. Wilkinson to run the BYU-California Center. Two years later he moved to Utah to become the associate dean, and then dean of the university's Continuing Education Division.
In 1976, Peterson was appointed by Church Commission of Education Jeffrey R. Holland to serve as the associate commissioner for religious education, and elementary and secondary education. He served in this position until his retirement from the Church Educational System in 2001.
