Biographical History

Maurice P. Marchant (1927-2006) was a Professor and director of the School of Library and Information Sciences at Brigham Young University.

Maurice Peterson Marchant was born on April 20, 1927 in Peoa, Utah to Stephen C. and Beatrice Peterson Marchant. He married VaLoy Hansen in 1949. He earned his MA at the University of Utah and became a librarian. He was the director of the Ogden Public Library. He earned a PhD from the University of Michigan. He later joined Brigham Young University faculty and directed the School of Library and Information Science. In 1995 he and his wife served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also served as chair for the Utah County Democratic Party. He died on November 15, 2006 in Provo, Utah.
