Biographical History

Martha A. Chavez (born 1952) is a vocal performer and instructor in Utah.

Martha A. Chavez was born in Piedras Negras Coahuila, Mexico. She moved with her family to the United States when she was ten years old. One of her elementary school teachers sang very well in class, and Chavez began to imitate her singing. Martha was offered a scholarship from the University of New Mexico, but turned it down to attend Brigham Young University, also on scholarship. While at BYU, she developed her singing and dancing, as she pursued her degree in Mexican-American Studies and Folklore. She continued to develop her talent for singing. After performing many times, she decided that she would rather teach than perform, so she returned to Utah and opened her own voice studio. She has also assisted with the Spanish version of the Primary songbook and has performed many songs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As of 2009, she currently resides in Murray, Utah.
