Biographical History

Elwood Rey Peterson (1932-1983) was an educational counselor and administrator in Utah.

Elwood Rey Peterson was born on January 24, 1932 in Sacramento, California to Oscar Henry Peterson and Bessie Viola Steinagel. He married Sabra Whittle on July 23, 1954 in Manti, Utah, and they had seven children. Peterson served in the United States from 1954 to 1956, then returned to Utah to complete his education. He earned a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1957, and a master's degree, also from Brigham Young University, in 1962. He joined the counseling faculty at the university in 1964, working as a counselor and assistant director. In 1969 he completed a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado. During his time at the university, Peterson served as president of the Utah College Personnel Association.

Peterson left the university in 1971 when he was appointed director of guidance for the Church Educational System's Education and Career Advisement Center. He also served as a lay leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as bishop and member of stake presidency.

Peterson passed away on August 20, 1983.
