Biographical History
John Taylor (1808-1887) was the third president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
John Taylor was born November 1, 1808 in Milnthorpe, England to James Taylor and Agnes Taylor. John immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1832, where he met and married Leonora Cannon on January 28, 1833. On May 9, 1836 he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Parley P. Pratt and 2 short years later joined the saints in Far West, Missouri. That year, on December 19, 1838 in Far West, John Taylor was ordained a member of the Quorum of the Twelve by Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball. John served a proselytizing mission to the British Isles from 1839–1841 and then again from 1846–1847. He worked to translate the Book of Mormon into French and German. Following death of Brigham Young, he presided over the church from 1877 to 1887 and was ordained president of church on October 10, 1880. He served in that position until his death on July 25, 1887 in Kaysville, Utah Territory. He was buried in Salt Lake City.

Photocopies of handwritten diaries from about 1836 to 1857, a notebook from 1848, correspondence from 1847 to 1888, financial papers from 1855 to 1883, miscellaneous items from 1840 to 1879, and copy of a revelation given in 1836 which is now found in Doctrine and Covenants, Sec. 111. The materials relate to Snow's finances and activities.

Photocopy of a handwritten letter addressed to George Q. Cannon and other executors and trustees of the estate of Brigham Young (1801-1877), second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Taylor outlines the claims of the Church on the estate of Brigham Young.

Handwritten and signed letters addressed to John Taylor's wife, Margaret Young Taylor. John Taylor writes from hiding while dodging federal officials sent to arrest him on charges of polygamy. The items deal largely with personal matters.
John Taylor revelations
Photocopy of typescripts of revelations allegedly given by John Taylor. The originals were reportedly "presented to Annie Taylor Hyde by her friend Emmar S. Woodruff 1907." The photocopies were made in 1967. Taylor gives revelations on appointments in the Mormon Church, on church government, and on the end of the world.
