Biographical history

Parley P. Pratt (1807-1857) was an American religious leader and missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Parley P. Pratt was born April 12, 1807 in Burlington, New York, to Jared Pratt and Charity Dickinson Pratt. He served as an apostle in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1835 to his death in 1857. Pratt also served in several missions for the Church, including the British Mission (April 1841-October 1842 and October 1846-January 1847); Eastern States Mission (president from December 1844-August 1845); and was the first Latter-day Saint missionary in South America (March 1851-March 1852). It was while serving a mission that Parley P. Pratt was assassinated May 13, 1857, in Alma, Arkansas.

Contains letter fragments in the form of 2 signed envelopes: one signed by Parley P. Pratt, and the other by Joseph F. Smith. Items are undated, but the two signers lived from 1807 to 1857 and from 1838 to 1918 respectively.

Also includes a seventeen-page handwritten copy, in German, of an account by Heber Q. Hale, president of the Boise Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, about going beyond the veil of death on 20 January 1920 to see the spirit world.
