Biographical History

Mary A. Hissrich (1920-1992) was a wife and mother in Pennsylvania.

Mary Agnes Gall was born April 23, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Albert A. Gall and Ethel Mary Maass -- their only child. She attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and received a degree in English. During World War II she worked towards her teaching certificate by teaching at a local Catholic school. She started writing Richard to do her duty in the war. After they were married she tried to live close to him when possible. While Richard was in Europe she lived with her parents, which helped her handle having a baby while her husband was away at war. Mary Agnes lived in Pittsburghh most of her life. She died there on April 5, 1992.

Scope and Contents Includes correspondence between Richard E. Hissrich and Mary Agnes (Gall) Hissrich, from August 16, 1942 to July 7, 1945, while he is serving in the military during World War II. The letters are written almost daily about life and how they feel for each other. There are also several letters written between Mary Agnes and Richard and their parents during a time after they were married and Mary Agnes was living near where her husband was stationed. The later letters tell of their first child...
