Biography

Theron H. Luke (1912-1987) was a historian, writer and newspaper editor from Provo, Utah.

Theron H. Luke (1912-1987) was born Theron Howard Luke on March 20, 1912, in Heber City, Utah to Cynthia Sophia Clyde and John Henry Luke. He was raised the youngest of seven children in Heber City until the family relocated when Theron was eight years old to Box Elder County and Brigham City, Utah. Theron graduated from Wasatch High School after his family returned to Heber, Utah in his junior year of high school. Theron attended Brigham Young University and was a member of the class of 1934. He left school and became a reporter for the Old Salt Lake Telegram before meeting his wife Zelda Louise Morley. They were married on August 25, 1934, in Provo, Utah. Theron and Zelda relocated to Alaska in 1936 where he was a reporter for the Anchorage Daily Times, and they had two of their three children. In 1945, the family returned to Provo, Utah where Theron began working for the Daily Herald. During his tenure he worked his way up to City Editor. He left the Herald in 1983 and began writing for the Deseret News. In addition to his work on the paper, Theron served sixteen years on the Utah State Board of History. He also spent time teaching adult community classes on early Utah history. Theron died on July 16, 1987, in Provo, Utah.
