Biographical History

Mirl Blake Hymas (1918-2015) was a World War II veteran.

Mirl Blake Hymas was born near Bear Lake, Idaho, as one of five children. In 1938, he was called as one of the first LDS missionaries to teach the people of Brazil in their native language of Portuguese. He returned from his mission about a month before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and served undercover in the Military Intelligence Division, which took him to South America, China, India, and Africa. After he returned from the war, he married Elaine Smith and continued his education at Utah State University. Later in life, he owned and operated Freeway Gardens Nursery for much of his career. He served in various church callings including Patriarch, Stake President, MTC Branch President, and temple ordinance worker. He passed away in 2015.
