Biography

Myrna Jean Murphy Black (1927-1998) was an elementary school teacher, marriage and family counselor, and genealogist.

Myrna Jean Murphy Black was born February 7, 1937, in Havre, Montana. She married John C. Black in the Salt Lake Temple on June 15, 1961. Myrna studied at the Merrill Palmer School in Detroit, at the University of South Carolina, and received a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in child development and family relations from Brigham Young University. She worked as an elementary school teacher and marriage and family counselor. As a genealogist, she contributed to various publications and developed a note-taking system that was also published. Myrna passed away August 1, 1998, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Contains correspondence, greeting cards, personal narratives, and scrapbooks collected by Rosa Vida Bischoff Black. Included among these personal papers are papers about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many of the materials are also genealogy records documenting the family history of the Black, Murphy, and Bischoff families, as well as Myrna Jean Murphy Black.
