Biographical History

Elizabeth Jean Fletcher Crook was an employee of the United States Senior Analytic Service, an author, a university professor, and treasurer of the China Rural Education Foundation.

Elizabeth Jean Fletcher Crook married Frederick W. Crook on June 5, 1964. They had six children. Elizabeth received her PhD from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy. She was an employee of the United States Senior Analytic Service for 18 years and a professor at Lingnan University and Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She was also treasurer of the China Rural Education Foundation.

Scope and Contents

Contains 40 antique mandarin squares and embroidery pieces collected in China by Frederick W. and Elizabeth Crook in the 1960s and 1970s. The squares include badges worn on the front of surcoats, sleeve bands, and skirt panels, embroidered with animals or birds that indicate ranks. Embroidery includes hats, garters, pouches, pockets, and other pieces. The collection dates from the latter part of the Qing Dynasty period, approximately 1800 to 1911.
