Biographical History

Alice Pugmire Evans (1910-1977) was a faithful mother, wife, and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who lived in Idaho and Utah.

Alice Pugmire Evans was born on February 9, 1910 in Paris, Idaho. She was the first child born to Jonathan Rich Pugmire and Ellen Budge Pugmire. Alice spent her childhood in Paris, Idaho near Bear Lake, attending school and caring for her four younger siblings. In August of 1929, Alice received a call to serve as a missionary in the Eastern States mission. She served there from September 1920 until February 1931. After returning from her mission, Alice entered Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah. She received a bachelor's degree in history. She also received a teaching license and taught in local schools in Idaho. She met and later married Robert John Evans on August 14, 1941. The couple then moved to Pullman, Washington to continue with Robert's work and studies. They later moved to East Lansing, Michigan in 1947 where Robert taught at the local university. Together the couple had two children. In 1971, Alice was diagnosed with cancer, and on December 8, 1977, she passed away in Ogden, Utah.
