Biographical History

David Burris (1770-1849) was an early settler of Boonville, Missouri.

David Burris was born in the 1770s in Laurens county South Carolina to Walter Burris, who was a loyalist in the Revolutionary War. Burris grew up in South Carolina where he met and married his first wife Mary Burris. David and Mary were divorced before 1808 when David remarried Ellender "Nelly" Lackey and moved to Estill, Clark County, Kentucky. His family then settled in Boonville, Missouri where other people from same area of Estill, Kentucky had settled previously.

David Burris died in Cass County, Missouri in 1849.

Contains a subpoena signed by Samuel C. Owens as Jackson County, Missouri clerk. In the document, Owens ordered Jacob Gregg, Jackson County Sheriff, to bring David Burris before a judge to answer to charges made against in by Harmon G. Noland regarding debt on some land owned by Noland. Dated January 12, 1835. Also includes a picture of a painting of Owens painted by his son Ambrose Young Owens.
