Biographical History

Niels Hans Nielsen (1816-1893) was a pioneer and a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Niels Hans Nielsen was born on March 12, 1816 in Haugerup, Pedersborg, Denmark, to his parents Niels Nielsen and Maren Christensdatter. On February 26, 1847, he married Ingeborg Sophia Hansen in Pedersborg, Denmark. Eight years later on June 11 he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Ole Larsen. Nielsen immigrated to Brigham City, Utah in United States on September 15, 1857 and was a member of the Matthias Cowley pioneer company, he was also a member of the 1866 Abner Lowry Company. He went on to marry Kristen Svensdatter on February 19, 1860, Ane Cecelia Pedersen on November 20, 1860, Ane Katrine Pedersen on April 10, 1872, and Bodell Hansen on May 19, 1881. He was a missionary for the Church in the Scandinavian mission at the age of 49. Nielsen died on March 10, 1893 in Cleveland, Idaho.

Nielsen authorized the transfer of these debts owed him to Brigham Young as a donation to the Perpetual Emigration (or Emigrating) Fund. Signed by Nielsen and two witnesses at Brigham City, Utah, on April 30, 1860.
