Biographical History
Bingham B. Bement (1817-1854) crossed the plains to Utah with the Henry W. Miller Company.
Bingham B. Bement was born in Tunbridge, Vermont to Silas Bement and Freelove Barnes on October 2, 1817. He married Melissa Russell on April 18, 1840, and together they had four children. Following his first wife’s death on May 11, 1850, Bement married Sarah Julia Hill on June 3, 1850, and had five more children. Bement crossed the plains with the Henry W. Miller Company, arriving in the Salt Lake valley in 1852. He died on October 22, 1854 in a mill accident in Salt Lake City.

The collection includes 73 items, including letters between Bingham and Sarah while she was in Kanesville and he was in St. Louis earning money for them to go West; letters between Sarah Bement and Ira and William Mudd discussing payment; and letters between members of the Bement family.
