Schofield, Ted
Biographical History
Ted Schofield is the current owner of Heindselman's, a yarn and needlework business that has existed in Provo, Utah since 1904.
Ted Schofield was born in the 1950s, the grandson of George Heindselman, the founder of Heindselman's, a yarn and needlework store located in Provo, Utah. Ted lived in Provo, until he attended University of Utah in 1976 to get a degree in biomedical engineering. Upon graduation, he worked for a medical supply company in San Francisco, California, engineering blood chemistry analyzers. By 1978, burned out by the medical industry, he and his wife Cynthia returned to Provo.
Schofield returned with the intention of revitalizing the family business. Since Heindselman's originally sold watch-making, jewelry, and optometry items, the family business struggled to stay afloat in America's changing culture. In 1975, the business declared bankruptcy. When Schofield reopened the company, he focused on selling jewelry and yarn. In 1982, Schofield moved the business to Center Street.
The company reached its centennial anniversary in 2004. Shortly after, Schofield moved away from Provo, returning to Berkley, California.
