Biographical History

John Leslie Syme (1935- ) is the son of Provo, Utah carpenter George L. Syme. He attended Brigham Young University between 1953-1955 and served as a member of the military in both the Korean War and in Germany during the 1960s.

John L. Syme was born in the Crane Maternity Home in Provo, Utah on September 14, 1935 to George L. and Janice Syme. He attended Timpanogos Elementary, Dixon Junior High, and Provo High School while his dad worked as a carpenter. He then attended Brigham Young University in 1953, taking courses which interested him, including chemistry and algebra. However, he eventually put a hold to his studies in 1955 when he was drafted in the Korean War. A year into his service, he married his wife Joan Williams in the Salt Lake Temple on January 5, 1956.

After returning home from Korea, he re-enlisted in the military. He joined the Third Armor Division, relocating him and Joan to Germany for three years. Upon returning to America, Syme continued his education, and eventually worked for electronic companies, including Kramer Electronics in Salt Lake and Hart Scientific in American Fork, Utah.

As of 2016, John and his wife celebrated their sixtieth anniversary.
