Biographical History

Carol J. Solomon is a professor of Counseling Psychology and Special Education at Brigham Young University. She earned her bachelor's degree from BYU in 1968 and her Master's degree from Western Oregon State College in 1992.

Carol Solomon was originally from Hood River, Oregon. After growing into adulthood, she attended Brigham Young University - where she earned a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education in 1968. After her graduation, she married her husband on May 28, 1969. In the late-1980s, she decided to continue pursuing her education at Western Oregon University and eventually left with a Masters in Special Education, Rural Education, and Multicultural Education in 1992. Armed with her Master's degree, in 2005 she was hired as a Coordinator for the National Professional Grant Teaching English Learners Program. During this time, she also became involved with the RISE Institute, an institute designed to “provide struggling readers, non-readers, and English language learners access to reading by using instruction that focuses on individual needs, and draws from scientifically based research" among other things.
