Biography

Max Florence (July 15, 1865 – November 26, 1932) was an entrepreneur and bootlegger.

He was born in Lithuania and emigrated to the United States in his early 20s. He made his initial fortune in the gold rush of 1890 in Cripple Creek, CO. He was involved in movies, restaurants, bootlegging, and farming in Utah. He owned the Florence Film Exchange. He owned 54 theaters in Utah. He is well-known for obtaining clandestinely taken photographs of the Salt Lake Temple interior and unsuccessfully attempting to blackmail the LDS church.
