Biographical History

Marjorie Shumway (1916-2006) served in the U.S. Army as a member of the Women's Army Corps during World War II.

Marjorie Shumway was born on August 5, 1916, in Mesa, Arizona to Elijah Gill Shumway and Sarah Elizabeth Willis. After graduation she worked for the government as a stenographer, and joined the U.S. Army Women's Army Corp during World War II. She worked in London, Paris, and Nuremburg, and finished her service as a court transcriber at the War Crimes Trials. She achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant, working from 1946 to 1948. After the war she lived and worked in Los Angeles for many years. Marjorie passed away at 89 years old on July 8, 2006, in Phoenix, Arizona, and was buried with full military honors in Phoenix.
