Biographical History

Jacques Alfred Messervy (1959-1921) was a pastor at the Reformed Church of France in Mantilly, Normandy, France who also helped compile a family history and pedegree of his family, many of who would eventually join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and move to Utah.

Monsieur Jacques Alfred Messervy was born in France in 1859. During much of his life between 1885-1894, he served as a minister in the Reformed Church of France in Mantilly, department of Orme, in lower Normandy. While serving in his church, he spent much of his spare time compiline a pedigree and family history of his family. While this included the members of his family in France, it also included the Robert-Messervy family who, in 1853, left from their home in France to join the Joseph W. Young 76th Pioneer Company to Utah. Later in his life, he grew to be blind until, on April 9,1921, he died in St. Helier's, Jersey.

Scope and Contents Collection includes two family record books related to the Meservy and Robert families coming out of the Isle of Jersey. The first record is a copy of a book titled "Genealogie de la Famille Messervy," and is a record of the Messervy family line on the Isle of Jersey extending into France and England as far back as 1400.
