Margie E. Small was born on February 15, 1873, in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, to Michael and Jannie H. Small. She moved to South Dakota in 1888, and lived with her sister Nina and uncle William. She was a school teacher in Gettysburg, South Dakota. She died in October of 1972.
