Biography

Philip B. Lewis (1804-1877) was a mission president for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Sandwich Islands.

Philip Bessum Lewis was born on January 16, 1804, in Marblehead, Massachusetts, to parents Edmund and Abigail Bigelow Prentice Lewis. He married Maria Theressa Bonny on June 26, 1837. He later married Jane Amanda Stevens on May 11, 1848.

Following this marriage, he was called as mission president of the Sandwich Islands mission where he served from 1851-1855. He later married Emily Lewis and Mary Scott on June 9, 1868.

Lewis passed away on November 13, 1877 in Kanab, Utah, where he is buried.
