Biography

Sarah Oakey Sirrine (1854-1942) was a Southeastern Idaho pioneer.

Sarah Oakey was born in Nottingham, England March 31, 1854. At the age of 8, she immigrated to the United States with the rest of her family. They travelled by boat and by train to Florence, Nebraska before taking wagons out west to Utah. It was there in Utah where Sarah was baptized a member of the church. A short time after their arrival, they were asked to settle the Bear Lake region of Southeastern Idaho.

In the small community of Dingle, Sarah was raised and on November 6th, 1879 she was married to George Edward Sirrine. Except for a few years in Mesa, Arizona, the two would live out their whole lives in Dingle, Idaho, having 6 children together. Sarah died in Dingle, Idaho on August 12, 1942, at the age of 88.

Sarah Oakey Sirrine collection, 1856-1938 (Sarah Oakey was born March 31, 1854 in Nottinghamshire, England to James Oakey (1817-1896) and Mary Cooper (1815-1893); as a youth in England, Sarah helped her father in his lace factory; her family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while in England; on November 6, 1879 Sarah married George Edward Sirrine (1851-1908) in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah, and they had six children together, three of whom lived to maturity; they lived in Dingle, Idaho for the majority of their lives, except for two years where they lived in Mesa, Arizona, where George's father, George Warren Sirrine (1818-1902), was one of the founders of that community; Sarah Oakey Sirrine passed away on August 12, 1942)
