Biography

Leonard Sieff (1913-2003) was a violist who studied and taught music in the Pennsylvania and Southern California area.

Leonard Sieff was born in 1913 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He loved music from an early age and especially the violin and viola. He studied music education at Carnegie Institute of Technology and after WWII he moved to southern California where he received his master's degree of music from the University of Southern California. Leonard Sieff taught orchestra in junior and senior high schools in the area until retirement. He also became involved in teaching math in the public schools later in his career. Leonard was especially interested in writing music for movie scores. He passed away in 2003.

Contains materials pertaining to Leonard Sieff's experience with and study of the viola. It includes newspaper articles, specialty magazines, and personal letters relating to William Primrose and the viola. Dated 1941-2009 with the bulk of the materials being from approximately 1946-1947.
