Biographical History

Kevin J. Worthen (1956- ) is a law professor and academic administrator in Utah. He served as president of Brigham Young University.

Kevin J. Worthen was born on April 15, 1956 in Dragerton, Utah. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Monterrey, Mexico. After returning from his mission, he was married to Peggy Sealey in 1978.

He graduated Summa Cum Laude with his bachelor's and juris doctor degrees. In 1982 he clerked for Judge Malcolm R. Wilkey of the D.C. Circuit Court and later for Justice Byron R. White of the Supreme Court. In 1984, he joined the firm Jennings Strouss and Salmon in Arizona. However, in 1987 he was asked to become a member of faculty at BYU's J. Reuben Clark Law School.

From 2004 to 2008, he served as dean of the Law School and then was named BYU's advancement vice president. Between 2014 and 2023 he served as the president of Brigham Young University. He also served as an area seventy for the Church.
