Biographical

Dr. David H. Sargent (1941-) is a composer and educator, with compositions performed throughout the United States, and abroad.

Sargent was born in Springville, Utah on February 11, 1941. His education was carried out at Brigham Young University and the University of Illinois. During his education he studied under composers Dr. Merrill K. Bradshaw and Professor Gordon W. Binkerd. Post education he held visiting professor positions at the Eastman School of Music and The Ohio University. In 1998 he was awarded the Harold R. Laycock Professorship in Music Composition at BYU. He held the position for 32 years, and retired in September 2008. His compositions have been commissioned and performed throughout the United States as well as internationally in Germany, France, denmark, Switzerland, Hungary, Wales, England, Bolivia, and Canada.

This collection contains the musical compositions and arrangements as well as a few papers of David H. Sargent. The Musical compositions are a combination of completed works and school assignments. The compositions are in the form of manuscripts, photocopies, final editions, published copies, scores and parts. There is a variety of genres and orchestrations. The resulting collection include programs and recordings in the form of compact discs. Dates range 1964-2012.
