Biographical History

J. S. Bradshaw (1932- ) is a professor emeritus of chemistry in Utah.

Jerald Sherwin Bradshaw was born in Utah to Sherwin Bradshaw and Marie W. Bradshaw on November 28, 1932. He attended the University of Utah where he met Karen Louise Lee. The two were married in the Logan Temple on August 6, 1954. Bradshaw served in the Navy and after finishing a tour of duty in 1959, he and his wife moved to Southern California for his graduate education at University of California, Los Angeles. The family moved to Provo, Utah in 1966 when Bradshaw joined the chemistry faculty at Brigham Young University, where he worked closely with Reed Izatt. The two began working together in the 1970s, exploring separation science and pioneering molecular recognition technology. Bradshaw and Izatt traveled all over the world for chemistry conferences and symposiums. In addition to their research, Bradshaw and Izatt founded the Center for Chemical Separations at BYU as well as IBC Advanced Technologies, Inc., a company known internationally in the metal separations field. In 1996 they received the ACS Separation Science and Technology Award. The two were also separately awarded the Governor's Medal for Sciences and Technology. Bradshaw was awarded the Department Pillar Award on April 3, 2013 for his significant impact on the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
