Family Search, via WWW, March 18, 2014 (merchant, manufacturer, statesman; 1752 in Wilmington, Delaware, to parents James Broom and Esther Willis; married Rachel Pierce on December 14, 1773; ten children together; prepared maps for George Washington before the Battle of Brandywine in 1776; From 1784 to 1786 and 1788, Broom was a member of the Delaware State Legislature; chosen to be a delagate of Annapolis Convention (which he did not attend); Constitutional Covention of 1787 (which he did attend); one of the signers of the United States Constitution; lay leader for the Old Swedes Church; involved with the reorganization of the College of Wilminton; served on the college's first board of trustees; died on April 26, 1810 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia)
