Biographical History
John Burnside Farnes (1806-1863) was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a bookbinder and a pioneer.
John Burnside Farnes was born on December 29, 1806, to parents Thomas and Mary Hipwell Farnes, in Surrey, England. He married Ann Isacke on April 26, 1830, and together they had seven children plus adopted one more to make eight. He was a bookbinder, working with his wife both in Dagenham and London. In 1863, he traveled wih his family to the United States, heading toward Utah to join with the Saints. Just two and a half weeks before they reached their destination, John contracted "typhoid" (or Rocky Mountain fever) and died on September 16, 1863. He was buried along the Mormon Trail when the wagon train had to move on.
