Biographical History

Dean Lowe May (1938-2003) was a historian in Utah.

Dean Lowe May was born in Worland, Wyoming to Frank Peter and Wanda Lowe May. He was born on April 6, 1938. They moved to Middleton, Idaho when he was nine. He served a mission to northern California and married Cheryll Lynn May in 1967. He received a master's degree from Harvard University in 1967 and a Ph.D. from Brown University in 1974. He then worked for the Church History Department and was a fellow at the Newberry Library and Community History Institute. In 1977, he joined the History Department at the University of Utah. He produced an award-winning twenty-segment series entitled A People's History of Utah. He did other research on population studies during his time at the University of Utah. He died on May 6, 2003.
