Biographical History

J.A. Washburn (1873-1951) was a superintendent and seminary teacher in Southern Utah.

Jesse Alvin Washburn was born on April 30, 1873, to Daniel Abraham Washburn and Margaret Ann Johnson. He was born in Shonesburg, Kane County, Utah. He grew up working with his uncle, Hyrum Smith Washburn, learning carpentry, wheelwright, and shoemaking skills. He married Luella Wakefield on September 2, 1896. They then moved to Huntington, where they lived with Luella's mother for a while. Jesse Washburn began attending the Brigham Young Academy in 1897. He served a mission in the Western States Mission in the Arizona-New Mexico area. After he returned, they moved to Provo and Jesse went back to the Academy. They later moved to Duchesne, Utah, and Jesse was selected as the Superintendent of the Duchesne County schools. They later returned to Huntington and then to Provo in 1922, where Washburn worked as a superintendent and seminary teacher. Jesse died on March 14, 1951.
