Biographical History

Lawrence Kirk Tolman (b. 1934) is a former missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is currently a professor of mathematics at Brigham Young University. Tolman is the son of Lawrence and Zina Tolman, and served in the Great Lakes Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints between October 1954 and October 1956. He received a BS and MS in mathematics from Brigham Young University, and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of New Mexico in 1972.

Scope and Contents Collection includes color photographs and negatives with images of the Kirtland Temple during its exterior remodeling in June 1955. All the original plaster had been removed from the temple. One picture includes L. Kirk Tolman with his parents. Some pictures show the original plaster applied to the temple walls by the early Saints in piles on the ground. Plaster fragments show three layers, including the outermost layer containing the original pulverized China-plaster made by the Saints....
