Biography

James J. Booth (1843-1897) was a photographer in St. George, Utah.

James J. Booth was born James Joseph Booth on June 12, 1843 in Stockport, England to John Booth and Ruth Gamble Booth. He married Margaret Holland on January 10, 1863 in Oldham, England. They had three children. They seem to have separated sometime around 1870. In 1873, he and Annis Edee Wych, who was listed as his wife, immigrated to the United States with their two children. They then made their way to Utah, where they were married on March 23, 1877 in St. George, Utah. James married Esther Elizabeth Tye on the same day, and they would go on to have nine children. James worked throughout his life as a photographer, becoming quite popular in St. George. He died April 11, 1897.
