Biographical History
J. T. Boysen (1868-1939) was a photographer and fern-collector in Yosemite Valley, California.
Julius Theodore Boysen was born on December 28, 1868 in San Francisco, California to Julius Boysen and Albina Lundstrom. Boysen first came to Yosemite in order work on the trails. He went into business with photographer Arthur Pillsbury in 1897, but in 1898 Pillsbury sold his share of the company to Boysen before traveling to the Yukon. Boysen married Mabel Sweetland on February 11, 1900; together they had one child, Ellen Boysen St. Clair. J. T. Boysen was a reputable developer, with much of his business coming from developing and finishing others’ film. He collected and pressed ferns in the Yosemite area, which he would sell as souvenirs. Julius Theodore Boysen died in Sacramento, California, on May 29, 1939.
