Sarah's earliest memories were when she was on board the Janiford, a ship sailing from Sidney, Australia, to San Francisco, California. The journey took 103 days. She came with the "Australian Company" to Parowan, Utah, late in 1857. "Sarah E. Gurr was born in Sidney Australia, February 13, 1855 and was only two years old when she arrived in Parowan, Utah."
