Biographical History

Caroline Hemenway Harman (1873-1940) was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah.

Caroline Hemenway Harman was born January 2, 1873, the second of eleven children. Caroline married George Reese Harman on January 16, 1895 in Salt Lake City, and they had seven childen. George passed away in 1912. After Caroline's sister died of the flu in 1919, Caroline married her widowed husband and the brother of George, David Reese Harman, on October 27, 1919. Caroline also lost her oldest daughter to the flu epidemic. David died suddenly of an illness in 1924. Caroline married Henry E. Robinson on March 10, 1925. Caroline was called as a Relief Society President for the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints for 18 years, serving through the flu epidemic and the loss of her family members. Her youngest nephew Leon "Pete" Harman co-founded Kentucky Fried Chicken with Colonel Harland Sanders. Pete donated funds to name a building in Caroline's honor at Brigham Young University in 1983. The building housed the Coninuing Education programs and sponsored the Harman Lecture, recognizing a scholar invited to give a lecture near the date of Caroline's birth. Caroline died July 26, 1940.
