Biography

Andrew Burt Horsley (1918-2008) was a professor at Brigham Young University.

Andrew Burt Horsley was born on November 23, 1918 to William Clements and Florence Adella Burt Horsley in Brigham City, Utah. From 1938 to 1940, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany until Adolf Hitler's expulsion of "undesirables" from Germany. He finished his mission in Colorado, where he met Enid Faye McBride, who later became his wife. Faye and Andrew had five children. Andrew and his family moved to Germany in the 1950s where he finished his education with a philosphy PhD and Doctor of Education from the University of Muenster in Germany. When they returned to America, Andrew began teaching political science and philosophy at Brigham Young University. He passed away on July 14, 2008, in Provo, Utah.

Scope and Contents Contains audio recording on compact disc and transcription for Andrew Burt Horsley's oral history given during a family home evening originally recorded on audiocasette tape in October 1996. The transcripion was performed by Andrew Sannar. The account covers Horsley's mission experiences in Germany, especially focused on the events leading up to his and his companion's escape from Germany when the missionaries withdrew from the country. He recounts some of the persecution they experienced....
