Biographical History

George Christensen (1866-1946) was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, lawyer, judge, educator, and businessman who lived in Utah.

Joseph George Christensen was born on February 24, 1866 in Århus, Denmark to Carl Emanuel Christensen and Rasmine Larsdatter. He emigrated with his parents to Utah, and settled in Sanpete County. He attended Brigham Young Academy, and then worked as a school principal in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. In 1890 he married Dorthea Marie Mogensen in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, and they had three children. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he left to serve a mission to Scandinavia between 1895 and 1989. The final six months of this time he served as mission president.

After his return, his wife Dorthea died in 1899 and he remarried to Francis Elizabeth Ellison. They had three children. He then completed his schooling at Central University in Indiana, earning his bachelor's degree and law degree. He then worked in a range of positions in education, business, and law in Sanpete County. He worked as superintendent of schools (1901-1903), principal of the Commercial Department of Snow College (1901-1904), county attorney (1911-1916), and judge on the Seventh Judicial District (1916-1940). He also worked as a bank director, secretary of the electric company, and on government and religious boards in Sanpete and Carbon counties.

Christensen passed away on July 17, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
