Biographical History
Robert H. Daines (1934-2021) was a business professor and ecclesiastical leader in Utah.
Robert H. Daines was born on May 30, 1934 in Logan, Utah to Robert Henry Daines and Anna Merrill. He was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Jersey, and later returned to Utah for college. He later continued his education, earning an MBA at Stanford University and a DBA at Indiana University, Bloomington.
Daines joined the faculty at Brigham Young University in 1959, and remained with the university over a 41-year career. He was an emeritus Driggs Professor of Strategic Management at Brigham Young University. While employed by Brigham Young University, Daines taught courses in finance, strategic financial management, and advanced financial management. He also served as director of the MBA program from 1966 to 1978. During that time, Daines also taught financial strategy and management controls courses for corporations such as Chase Manhattan Bank, Bank of America, and British Petroleum. He co-authored the finance textbook Strategic Financial Management, published by Irwin, as well as several articles and cases. Additionally, Daines served as a consultant to Aetna Life and Casualty where he managed their treasury services including cash management, accounting controls, and financial policies and procedures.
An active member of the Church, Daines served as a student ward bishop, a student stake president, a mission president in the Pennsylvania Harrisburg Mission, and as president of the Provo Temple.
Daines passed away on November 2, 2021.
