John C. Bectom (1862) was a formerly enslaved person.

John C. Bectom was born October 7, 1962 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Simon and Harriet Bectom. He was born into slavery and was still young when slavery was abolished. He was working when the Union Amry came and told them that they were free.

Pat Matthews in 1937 as part of the Federal Writer's Project for the Works Progress Administration. The item includes handwritten corrections.
