Saints at War Project
Biography
The Saints at War Project (1999-) works to collect documentation on veterans from various wars ranging from the Mexican-American War to current conflicts. They are gathered in Brigham Young University's L. Tom Perry Special Collections.
The Saints at War project was started in 1999 by BYU Church History professors Dr. Robert C. Freeman and Dr. Dennis A. Wright to capture the stories of veterans who have served in various wars to preserve them for future generations. Included in this collection are stories from general authorities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who served in the military including Thomas S. Monson, James E. Faust, and Boyd K. Packer to provide personal accounts of American wars ranging from the Mexican-American war to current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Using these stories gathered for the collection, this project works to contribute to the Library of Congress's "Veterans History Project" and has used the records gathered in the collection for regular conferences, documentary films like KBYU's "Saints at War," and books including Robert C. Freeman's "Saints at War: Experiences of Latter-day Saints in World War II." They are currently held at BYU's L. Tom Perry Special Collections department.
