Biography
The Church of Jesus Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (established 1830) is a restorationist Christian church with a world-wide membership. Originally established in Upstate New York by Joseph Smith, Jr., the church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the past, it was commonly abbreviated as the LDS Church or the Mormon Church.
During the 1820s, the church's founder, Joseph Smith, experienced visions and was led to the golden plates from which the Book of Mormon was translated. The Church was officially founded by Joseph Smith on April 6, 1830, in Palmyra, New York. The members of the religion faced a series of persecutions, and eventually fled to Utah for refuge beginning in 1847. The Church continued to grow and expand beyond Utah, and with membership later numbering over 16 million. It is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Presidents of the Church have included Joseph Smith Jr. (1832-1844), Brigham Young (1847-1877), John Taylor (1880-1887), Wilford Woodruff (1889-1898), Lorenzo Snow (1898-1901), Joseph F. Smith (1901-1918), Heber J. Grant (1918-1945), George Albert Smith (1945-1951), David O. McKay (1951-1970), Joseph Fielding Smith (1970-1972), Harold B. Lee (1972-1973), Spencer W. Kimball (1973-1985), Ezra Taft Benson (1985-1994), Howard W. Hunter (1994-1995), Gordon B. Hinckley (1995-2008), Thomas S. Monson (2008-2018), and Russell M. Nelson (2018- ).

Francis W. Kirkham papers
Contains various papers from Kirkham, documenting his work with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Utah education system, the Cooperative Life Insurance Association, and his personal life. Included are correspondence, personal papers (including biographical information), scrapbooks, leaflets, pamphlets, brochures, and various other materials. Materials date from between approximately 1877 and 1972.
Mercantile Institution Manti account book
Handwritten entries in an account book. The item includes lists of stock holders in the institution and records of financial transactions. The accounts were made out primarily to women.
Minute book for William C. Allen's Company
Collection includes one volume containing minutes of the chapter's business meetings from 1876 through 1888 and a second volume containing handwritten copies of the company's business correspondence and letters from various Mormon church leaders.

Richard Benson papers, 1842-1965
This series includes the personal papers of Richard Benson (1816-1895), such as his missionary journal and patriarchal blessing, mission letters, a journal from 1868, letters written to him over the course of his life, his business journal, his business papers, and a map of the railways of Great Britain and Ireland. All included papers and maps date between 1842 and 1965.
Joseph West Smith letters received
Typewritten and signed letters dated 20 June and 17 Aug. 1923. The items are addressed to Joseph W. Smith and are signed by the Mormon Church leaders, Melvin J. Ballard and John A. Widtsoe. The letters deal primarily with business matters.
Erastus Fairbanks Snow promissory note
Handwritten promissory note. Snow agrees to pay Peter Harrocks thirty six dollars at 20% per anum interest.
Sterling Mining and Milling Company promissory notes
Photocopies of typed and signed promissory notes dated October 1895 and March 1898. The notes are directed to the Commercial National Bank of Salt Lake City, Utah, and to Zion's Savings Bank and Trust Company. The items were signed by prominent Mormon Church officials including apostles and presidents of that religion.
Tenth Ward Lumber and Building Association extracts of minutes
Handwritten extracts of minutes of meetings of the Tenth Ward Lumber and Building Association. The item is addressed to attorneys Ferguson and Cannon and requests arbitration in a land dispute between the Tenth Ward Lumber and Building Association and the Tenth Ward Cooperative Mercantile Industries. The item was transcribed by Rodney Hillam, Jr. (1870- ), Secretary for the Tenth Ward Lumber and Building Association.
