Administrative History

Brigham Young University Press (1967-1984) was an academic support service at the university. It had the responsibility of producing print materials for students, faculty, and the University as a whole.

University Press came about with the consolidation of printing and publishing facilities at Brigham Young University. Publishing and printing was under the overall direction of Auxiliary Services. Ernest L. Olson acted as director of the Brigham Young University Press when it began in 1967.

The University Press published scholarly materials for distribution outside of the university. The University Press also functioned as a service for publishing materials for University use, such as the Daily Universe. Mail services were also under the direction of the Brigham Young University Press.

Directors included Ernest L. Olson (1967-1982), J. Robert Driggs (1982-1984). Divisions within the Brigham Young University Press formed, such as University Publications in 1978. Divisions that had their own directors within University Press included Graphic Communications Department, Marketing, Press Business Office, Printing Service, Mail Service, and Editorial Department. In 1984 the Brigham Young University Press was renamed Brigham Young University Print Services.
