Administrative History

The Department of Religious Education (1929-1940) was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University.

The Department of Religious Education was formed in 1929 in a reorganization of the earlier Department of Theology. The department provided instruction in religious and ethical life, Bible and Book of Mormon scriptures, history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, philosophy, psychology of religion, social and recreational leadership, and anthropology. Department chairs included George H. Brimhall (1929-1932) and Guy C. Wilson (1933-1939). In 1940 the department was reorganized as the Division of Religion.
