Administrative History

Special Services (1945-1955) was an administrative unit at Brigham Young University. The division had responsibility for student welfare in the areas of athletics, housing, admissions, financial aid, security, health services, employment, and student activities.

The Special Services division was established in 1945 following the appointment of Wesley P. Lloyd as Dean of Students. President Howard McDonald reorganized campus administration based on Lloyd's recommendations, reducing the role of faculty committees in the management of non-academic programs. Special Services was given managed for a range of student programs, and professional staff were given administrative responsibility. In 1955 the division was reorganized as Student Personnel Services.

The division was administered by the Dean of Students, Wesley P. Lloyd (1945-1955).
