Marriott International, Inc. (1927- ) is the world's largest hotel company as of 2016.

Marriott Corporation began as a root beer stand founded in Washington D.C. founded by John Willard Marriott and his wife in 1927. The Marriotts later expanded this enterprise into a chain of restaurants under the name Hot Shoppes, Inc. They began building hotels throughout the eastern United States in the 1950s. In 1967, the company name officially changed to the Marriott Corporation. Following a split between two parts of the Marriott Corporation in 1993, the Corporation became Marriott International, Inc. The company continued to expand its global presence and became a leading property owner within the hotel industry.
