The Department of Home Study (1960-1979) was created to aid the many people who cannot take college work in residence.
The Department of Home Study was established in 1960. This department provides courses required for entrance requirements, courses needed to complete high school or for teacher certification, courses for those serving their country in the armed forces or for veterans who wish to maintain their entitlement, for people working in industry who wish to acquire broader culture or to improve their skills, for professional people with a desire for continued intellectual and professional progress, and for those desirous of pursuing some course for personal development and interest. It was later renamed Independent Study in 1979. Those who served as chairmen of the department were the following individuals: Lula Clegg (1960-1966), Karl E. Starr (1966-1968), and E.
