Administrative History

Access Services (est. 1996-2016) is an administrative unit in the Harold B. Lee Library.

The Access Services department was formed in 1996 in a merger of the earlier Circulation Department and Interlibrary Loan Department. The unit is also responsible for course reserves and other faculty services. At the time of its creation Access Services was responsible for current periodicals, but these materials were moved to General Reference in 1997. During the period from 2007 to 2009, the department also administered the Learning Resource Center.

In 2016, the department was merged with the Learning Commons to form the Patron Services Department.

Department chairs included Kathleen Hansen (1996-2010), Kathy Johansen (interim, 2010), and Duane Wilson (2011-2016).
